Couplings

A coupling is a device used to connect two shafts together at their ends for the purpose of transmitting power. Unlike a clutch, couplings do not allow disconnection of shafts during operation. the main reason of the manufacturing of coupling is that the shafts are normally manufactured upto the length of 7 meters for the ease of transportation from one place to another but in situations where the longer shafts are required the two or more shafts are combined together so as to obtain the required length, in order to do so we use coupling (source: Wikipedia).
